Village Hall - Neuadd y Pentref

A major makeover has been carried out in Penllergaer Village Hall during the last twelve months. The Hall, which dates from the 1870’s and was formerly the village primary school, is owned by the Community Council and has now been dramatically updated with new toilets, windows, heating system and flooring.

“By carefully managing our finances, we’ve been able to fund these improvements out of budgets and have even managed, year on year, to reduce the Community Council’s precept as well”, said Wyn Morgan, Chairman of the Community Council.

The Busy Bees Nursery is based in the Village Hall during the day but the building is well used for community activities evenings and weekends.

“The Village Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Penllergaer and we’re delighted with the transformation that’s taken place to update it. We hope users too will appreciate the investment and hard work that’s gone in to achieving this result,” commented Christine Pugh, Chairman of the Village Hall Committee.

Help also came from the community service team who not only spent several weekends painting the hall itself but also undertook the refurbishment of all the old iron railings outside.

Finishing touches to new skirtings after the floor was laid were undertaken by members of the Community Council and friends over the August Bank Holiday after which the Hall was again open for business.
